Pemberton Regional Economic Development Strategy

Client: Pemberton Area Economic Development Collaborative

Due to an increasingly competitive global economy, economic development demands a level of resources, expertise, and marketing that is often not attainable for rural and Indigenous communities.

In an effort to maximize resources, align economic development priorities, and access a range of expertise, a group of representatives from Pemberton-area local government, non-government organizations, and Indigenous communities assembled to address economic development from a regional perspective. This group of regional representatives formed the Pemberton Area Economic Development Collaborative. Represented organizations included the Village of Pemberton, Squamish-Lillooet Regional District, Líl̓wat Nation, Pemberton Chamber of Commerce, Tourism Pemberton, and the Lower Stl'atl'imx Tribal Council.

As the appointed project manager for the development of a first-of-its-kind regional strategy, Clear Course led the Collaborative through a strategic process that identified economic priorities for the region. Priority areas included tourism, infrastructure, transportation, arts and culture, employment, education, housing, agri-tourism, and COVID-19. The results from this consultation were compiled into a strategy that was completed in March 2021.
