Our Hiring Process
Thank you for considering joining Clear Course. We hope by sharing our hiring process, you’ll get a sense of our values, business ethic, and the journey you’ll take if you apply for a position with us.
We believe hiring is a reciprocal process—we want to find the best fit for our team and clients, and we want to ensure you feel a strong fit with Clear Course and the type of work you’ll be doing.
The hiring process may take between 30 and 60 days depending on the type of role, time of year, and interviewer/ee availability.
Submitting Your Application & Resume
All Clear Course job openings are posted on our Careers page. For each job posting, we ask candidates to submit an introduction letter and resume.
We are seeking candidates who can demonstrate how their values align with Clear Course’s values of Trust, Humility, Integrity, Sincerity, and Collaboration. We also want to know how your experience and knowledge will bring value to our team and the meaningful work we do. Please address these considerations in your introduction letter.
We encourage you to submit any questions you have about Clear Course and/or the position before you apply—email your questions to djohnson@clearcourse.ca at least three (3) business days before the job posting closing date.
If you are still interested in a position, please email your introduction letter and resume to djohnson@clearcourse.ca. We kindly ask that you limit your letter and resume to a total of four (4) single-sided or two (2) double-sided pages. You will receive a response within five (5) business days after the closing date, regardless of whether you’ve been short-listed.
First Interview
If you are short-listed, we will contact you by email to schedule a 30–60-minute virtual interview (using Microsoft Teams).
You will meet with the hiring lead as well as at least one person from our team. During your interview, we will first talk about your interest in the role and how your experience aligns with the role’s responsibilities. We will also ask you questions about your approach to grant writing, project coordination, and other support services, as well as your experience and ability to work remotely. You will also be invited to ask questions.
We are also interested in how you communicate, your enthusiasm for working at Clear Course, and how your values align with ours.
We try to schedule all interviews within ten (10) business days of closing the job posting. We will notify you within five (5) business days after we have conducted all first interviews to let you know if you’ve been invited to a second interview.
Writing Test
If you are further short-listed and asked to attend a second interview, we will email you a writing test that you must complete within an hour (in advance of your second interview). We will confirm a time that works best for you prior to sending the test.
Writing plays a crucial role in this position, so this test gives us a better sense of your writing skills and style. We will discuss your test results during your second interview.
Second Interview
If you are further short-listed, your second interview will also be 30–60-minutes long and include the hiring lead plus another team member (likely different from your first interview).
During this interview, we will discuss your continued interest in the role, specifics about the role, address any outstanding questions, talk about your availability, and ask you to prepare three references in case you are our final choice.
Our hiring team will then review the strongest candidates and decide their final hiring choice. We will notify you within ten (10) business days whether you have been selected and request your prepared reference list. If you are not selected, our hiring lead will be available to answer questions about your candidacy and our hiring process.
Reference Calls
If you are selected as the final candidate, we will ask you for three references from people you’ve worked with previously. We will call your references to learn more about your experience, talents, and areas for growth.
Hiring
Once we’ve spoken with your references and decided to proceed with hiring you, we’ll do a little dance and then email you an employment letter that includes remuneration and our preferred start date. We want to be sure your employment is mutually agreeable, so we may need to revise your letter over the period of a few days. We also want you to take the time to decide if working at Clear Course is right for you.
